While employed for a midsize food manufacture, I was instrumental in the benefit plan design. Management’s primary objectives were focused on the health of an aging workforce and cost containment and shifting. The Employee’s expressed a need for financial security, short and long-term disability and a comprehensive medical plan.

I and the business department worked with our broker to review the current health care plans and features to design a program that would meet the employee’s needs from a defined contribution perspective while assuring cost containment and introduction of early intervention for an aging workforce.

As a result of a labor market assessment, employee engagement and plan review we identified worker compensation expenses that should have been charged under the  health care plan. This finding afforded us a thirty percent workers compensation cost savings allowing us the financial ability to provide long and short term disability coverage and reduce our workers compensation exposure.
